Jon
Allen joined The
Magic Circle in
1988. He has progressed from
Member of The
Magic Circle through
examination to Associate of the Inner Magic Circle and
finally, upon invitation from
the President, he is now a
Member of the Inner Magic Circle (MIMC).
Jon is one of around 1500
magicians worldwide who are
members of The
Magic Circle and one of only 300 who are
Members of the Inner
Magic Circle. While it is possible
to become an MIMC through a
variety of means, it was Jon's
performing abilities and skills
as a professional magician that led to this honour.
The Magic
Circle opens its
doors to the general public
a couple of times a month to
put on evenings of entertainment.
These will include close-up
magic, stage magic and a talk
about the history of The
Magic Circle. For over a decade,
Jon was one of the very few
close-up
magicians who were
requested to regularly perform
at these events. However, work
commitments in recent times
means he is now sadly unavailable
to do so.
The Magic
Circle has its own
in-house magazine and Jon was
honoured in 2005 by being the
cover story. It holds a close-up
magic competition every year
and in 2001 Jon became probably
THE most popular winner in
its history. He has also lectured
for The
Magic Circle on several
occasions, imparting his knowledge
and creative magic to his peers.
The Magic
Circle has all levels
of magicians as members from
enthusiastic hobbyists to semi-professional
and professional magicians.
They also represent a wide
variety of magic styles: close-up
magic, stage magic, illusions,
mentalism (mind reading), psychological
magic, cabaret magic and children's
magic.
There are many famous magicians who are members of The
Magic Circle. Paul Daniels & Debbie
Magee, David Copperfield, Siegfried & Roy,
Lance Burton and even Prince
Charles are all members. However,
don't expect to see them all
at the HQ on a Monday night!
The Magic
Circle is the most
famous magic society in the
world and it is an honour to
call yourself ‘a Member of
The Magic
Circle'. When working
at events, the question that
comes up more than most is, “Are
you a member of The
Magic Circle?” While
it is not necessary for a professional
magician to be a member, people
are still impressed when the
reply is, “Yes I am.”
